David Kearns, O. Carm. (SEL-NY)

Fr. David Kearns, O. Carm., a member of the North American Province of St. Elias, died at St. Simon Stock Priory in the Bronx, NY on Monday, July 25, 2005. He was 71 years old.

Fr. David was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 7, 1934. He made his first profession as a Carmelite on September 8, 1955 and was ordained priest on May 27, 1961. He taught in the Carmelite seminary and worked in vocation ministry. Later he was a teacher and parish priest. From 1998 until his death, he celebrated “the workers’ Mass” in Yankee Stadium each Sunday when the New York Yankees baseball team were playing home games, an assignment that the Carmelites in the Bronx have had since the 1970’s.
